On the First Friday of every month - throughout the year - businesses, artists, and entertainers throw a party in downtown Goshen. Hours are generally from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This month:

Fire and Ice Festival

The 5th annual Fire and Ice Festival takes place in downtown Goshen on the first Friday and Saturday in January.

The two-day festival offers a full schedule of events including single-block sculpting, chili competition with downtown restaurants, and judged ice competition with cash prizes.

2012 Fire and Ice Festival

Ice sculptures will be created by members of the Michiana Ice Carvers Association, on Friday night. On Saturday, the carving competition and Chili Fire Competition take place from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Goshen Theater (216 South Main).

Members of the Michiana Ice Carvers Association (MICA) will carve 300-pound blocks of ice in front of downtown stores on Friday from 5 - 9 p.m. Watch these sculptures take form while you shop downtown businesses offering holiday specials.

Friday Pyrotation Nation Fire Dancers!
East Washington and Main Street

Fire Dance Performances (45 minutes long) at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Pyrotation Nation includes 9 Fire Spinners and 5 Fire Safety staff who perform pyrotechnic dance shows for parties, festivals, and community events. Fans can expect to see vastly different styles of spinning such as Rope Dart, Nun chucks, Poi, and Staff, Hoops, and Fire Spitting.

Every member of Pyrotation Nation has their own unique spinning and dancing experience. We all love to explore new and thrilling performances. Our 14 member team allows us to work together to expand our skills and perfect our shows.

Pyrotation Nation wants to take fire art and bring it up to a whole new level of expectations!

Contestants test their skills with elaborate competition pieces. With more time to sculpt, and larger blocks of ice, the artists have time to make truly amazing sculptures. Judges will review award cash prizes to the top three contestants.
Winners will be announced on West Washington Street on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Graber Designs Gallery is a family-owned business that specializes in Graber family art (paintings, limited edition prints, books) and art by international craftspeople. Owners Ann and Keith Graber Miller travel to Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe to hand-select all of their works from local artists and merchants. Ann Graber Miller also does interior and architectural design and consulting.

The gallery also features The Art of Karen Jacob. Jacob, a Michiana artist, uses the gallery as her studio, painting pastels and oil paintings and creating jewelry in her workspace.

The gallery is open noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, each week.
